ABOUT THIS EPISODE

The boys are back in town for Pokemons 25th anniversary! Come in for a fun episode with a slew of announcements!

Yo, what ies up guys welcome back totag team, the POKMON trading card games for me or podcasting duo, my name'srile hovert joined, as always by my good good friend, JBW Cree Wall JNBhasn't gone today. Braly, it's Gong pretty well, almost half well more than halfwaythrough my first week of code. I know you guys are getting tired of metalking about it but Wat's through my first week, so itfeels pretty good. Very nice right nice ut, you Riley! What's what's do with you? Well, the product I've been working on since April of last year is coming tofruition. It's going live at the end of next month, so a lot of preparationgoing into that as we approach like the final stages of that, but that's been like a tumultuouous yetexciting time. You know. Obviously, it's cool to see something like come toits end game but stressful. At the same time, so yeah there we are otherwiseI've been doing well. I've been doing well. Like I said last week, I've been tryingto like sort of have a better mentality coming into two thousand and twenty oneand kind of treat myself and my mentalstate a little bit better. I think I've been doing better at that just the lastweek. At least I Y. U Know Ure, to recognize when things are pholine offshackind like resender myself, and you know, I think, I'm cruis and you Kno, Ias kind of crazy sure sure absolutely that's gray, man how's thehow's, the coating been you know. Yeu talked about t all the time, but areyou feeling feeing like you're, really getting into it? Well today I mean it'sbeen a lot of review for me since I was working. You know, for I don't know thelast like three months. Well, I kno. No, that's generous, I would say like monthand a half maybe getting ready for it. So a lot of this I would expect thefirst week. Hopefully the first two weeks would be a lot of just review.Yeah we've been doing a lot of you know today was expressions and methods. Yeah yeah, it's Lik, okay, you know, and Ikind of knew you know what' what's going on there, so wasn't too bad. Imean it's a lot of we're doing some like word problems and stuff with ifstatements and so just try to figure out that- and you know it's a lot ofit's not necessarily hard. It's just work that is solidifying the conceptyeah. I spentsure a good amount of time on it. Just because there were. Youknow forty questions that we had to do tonight or so it's like not necessarilyhard, and I know what's going on, but it like takes a lot of time justbecause you know you know how that kind of stuff goes is yea for sure. Wordproblem, so you just gotta kind of you know you spend a minute trying to parsout the words and what it means, and then you put it into the thing and thenyou forget a Semicolon, and then you go back and yeah. So so yeah it's been, it's been prettygood, very nice. I have. I have a question for you actually yeah. How doyou this is like not cutting Relat at all? This is Har Related. So I wastalking to my mentia work today and I just kind of ramping like I feel likeright now, my hair. I think it looks fine right now, but my hair is kind ofin that awkward phase, where it's like not quite long enough, but not short, hair, either yeah. How didyou in your like hair growth journey, a d get past, that phase thit's prettybad? That was a rough match. I because I knew I was going to go for a Manbun,so I don't know if that's your plan, but I knew that I had to break throughthis kind of middle stage, so what I ended up doing for a while was justwearing a headband yeah. I know ind looking like tlercross kid in eighth grade and yeah. So I don't know I mean I don't know howyou're supposed to get through it. It's just like get a haircut scrub yeah, Idon't know I'm like. I don't know what I want to do with it either, whichmakes it harder. I'm thinking about going for like anundercut. You know where you like the sides and backer super short, but then...

I don't know I don't know, maybe maybe it would workyeah. I don't know my hairs like really thick and early to so it's just awkwardto work with Yeah. I always feel like that. Kind of haircut doesn't look thebest on people with curly hair just because it looks like you were you'rewearing like a had or a mop or something I don't know I ago. I agree.I don't know what to do, though. It's just it's awkward right now. It isreally I mean it's always it's going to be awkward for everybody like nobodyhas a good period there, wortyor shits for sure it is what it is. Let's sit away from Hare, though, andtalk about some Pokemon so coming up here, believe it or not, tw Ointwentyone is the twenty fifth anniversary of Pokimon, not the trading card game, butHokmonin General Yep, that's pretty cool, you know, I rememberOypeoundtheowtwenteth anniversary and it was. It was pretty big. You know itwas pretty cool, but I don't know twenty five is a silver anniversary. You know it's. It is a little bit more prestigious, bigger nicer number for alot of people, and so you can expect big things and today wasa big release for some of those big things, yeah a lot of cool stuff thatthey announce today. I also very distinctly remember the Twentifanniversary. That's really when I started to get into the trading cardgame was around then, and my friends and I were so excited to getall the twenti anniversary like merge, ind, the generations packs and 's a is a fun time. Generations packsyeah that that's amazing yeah. I distinctly remember not having enoughmoney to purchase the things that I wanted to purchase from the twothousand andtwenteth anniversary yeah. I just didn't really get. There was oneTikachu box collection. I don't know if you remember this, but it as like asilver full art. Pika chew was kind of the feature card of this collection andit came with some sleeves and a deckbox and I think some packs, but the big kind of feature again was thespeakit co and I remember just wanting that so bad and then just not you knowI mean I was in college, so just not really being able to to justifyspending the hundred or hundred and fifty dollars. It was on the secondarymarket. So ended up not really getting a lot out of that twentieth anniversaryin terms of Merch, but did get a lot of like booster packs. You know, did get alot of evolutions, ended up opening or selling, but some some of the oscury generations. I got a lot yeahselling and stuff, but then kept some of the evolutions Eah for sure I I endup getting every single one of those those pin collections for generations. I came with all the different Mithicpokemons. I like the MEW Celo, be the dratchi yeah. I have all those pinsstill actually there an Alltho sweet they're in a baggy on my shelf rightnow, because they don't have a bulletin where to put them in, but okay as soonas I do get a Boltin board, how much are they the pins yeah? I'm just curious. I have no idea,I just think they're cool like. Are they okay? Okay, I wasn't sure if theywere had some kind of value now I do have. I think the one thing I have that's.Actually a value is, do you remember they made plushes as well for all themythnics and they came. I these like big, like square blasticky kind of really boxes but kind of boxes. I guess I on I can take it out for the listeners at home. They came inthese like astic, almost like Bil o bear lookingkind of things and it had the twenty anniversary logo on it and there 's onefor Pikachuw. I think there might have been one for ev, then there's one forall the the twenty enniversaries. So I...

...got the Pigachu on he's pretty cool. Ithink this is actually worth something now: okay, like especially when coming withthe box thing sure but sure you know this permanent ficture in the pkcecollection. Obviously yeah. That's awesome, atwenty fifth anniversary, so DowWalkus, through what we're looking at in terms of the general announcements,an then we'll talk about Fokman cards after that sure, so the biggestannouncement they just put out pokemon today put out a trailer with a RubaGoldberg Machine where they had a pokaball that kind of travelled throughthe different areas of Pokemon. You know: Owen, Canto, Joto, etc, N, the threethat you know on the top of your head. What's that the three that you know offtop of your head, yeah? Well, like the only three that I actually played allthe way through. I know Nova and Galar right eyes, yea the ones Wa card. So then it traveled this bookballtravels all the way. Through it's great little, I thought I mean it was kind of it kind of was cool because theproduction value wasn't like too high, because it's a rout, Goldenburg machine. So there's like an inherent kind of playful toy esk atmosphere to it. We athought just really. I mean it just fits with Pogmon, because it's thisfanciful kind of childlike thing, but also like sophisticated o. The pointthat it's this I don't know kind of machinery that has to you know, gothrough these. I don't know. I just thought the whole concept really workedwell for what they were trying to do anyway, at the end of the trailer they havethis kind of hint at a Katy Parry collaboration, which was probably thebiggest news from today. Yeah Katy Perry. That's it seems ju so random tome, but but it's cool dont get me wrong. It's really cool. I don't know thatit's too random. You don't think that they weld try tobring on like a big star. I think just carried Katy Parry particular justseemn random. I mean it seems. I don't know why itseems random, like she's, probably one of the biggest least she's, probably one of thebiggest least controversial Yeah Tas, probably what it comes don to she'slike very, like noncontroversial, she's super cool. You know at least he seemedSuper Cool N, like my paros social relationship, W H, yeah yeah. No, I'm not like I'm setabout it. I don't think it looks like a bad choice. It's just like I haven'tthought about Katy Parry in like a long time. You know. Katy Perry is personally one of myfavorite pop artist, so esee that she is. We don't really know what herrelationship is. I think I was reading on twitter like Sheis or Woll. Ohactually, I don't even know based on the twitter post now that I'mreremembering it but its it sounds like there might be at least one you know, maybe multiple songs. If you hear at the end of the trailer she says likeelectric, it's ins in a song form, so maybe there's going to be some kind oflike elemental, song or songs. You know to kind of depict. You know different typings of the POKMON. You know thatcould be something, but we don't quite know at ton. Obviously, this trailerwas just a just a taste just a taste, but I'm into it man. I can't wait tosee what happens yeah, I'm excited, I'm excited, I'm excited to hear the songswhen they drop. Obviously, I also saw intathere's I'm picture of Katy Perrywith some like Super Rar. You could chew plushy, which was reallyinteresting. How now, if they lie, gave that to her, if that's something thatshe just like got in her own Weli have been really loving the brandingsurrounding everything. So one thing...

...that you'll notice, if you look at allof the you know, packaging on the products or at Katy Perry's kind ofpress release, picture for Pokemon- or I don't know just just a lot of these a lot of the brand of the subtlebranding that they have is just pikache's tail in the background and itlooks really really clean. So the two biggest examples I would say again are that background for Kati Perry and thenthey're also doing it on the Pokamon card sleeves there's. This kind of youknow the Zizaggy tail of Pikachu and then there's also some sleeves thatthey're miking with the Zizag tail. So I would expectthat tale kind of to be this yea. This subtle nod you know continually overand over, which is really really cool in terms of branding for the twentyfifth anniversary yea. That makes me think they always they talkd about an theythenebulous day. They talk about like when you're, designing a characterlike a sign of a good character or a good brand is that it has a veryrecognizable silhouette and lik you typically when you think of Pikachu. Ithink the thing that comes to mind is like the face right with e round withthe point of years had again like both directions: its Li,a very recognizable pogem on trobe right and then the twentyth anniversary, really laned in the face like the generations etb and the sleeves allhave the the peak juice pace. Is The logo sure, but I feel like pikache as awhole. Has it like a super good silhouette and the tail is definitelypart of that, like you can see, pju's tail and you know that's Pek ches tailyeah, sory Ju. I think it's just really cool. That ts is like such an iconiccharacter that you can recognize it in so many different ways. That'sdefinitely true. Definitely true, no difficult. I definitely agree with you.The branding's super awesome. I always love when fookmone goes all out onthese kinds of things. I think it's really fun. Yeah Yeah and I mean you know they have thebrand to do it like they. Just they pretty much, don't miss when they makestuff like this and this another great example. Another thing that to keep aneye out for, if you're, into kind of yeah, all this merch and stuff, I justsaw that they're doing another frent line of bearwalker. Now that we'retalking about pikachos stuff but they're, dropping some more escape. TidSee that as well than you know at that nineteent of this month. So, likethat's cool, I just yeah. It's going to be interesting because I have to feellike there's going to just be way more stuff, that's going to come out thisyear. You know this is just the tip of theicebert yeah. I think February is going to be a Cemon because I'm pretty sureFebruary is like the actual anniversary, Mont diesn't it okay. It could be. Thatsounds about right. I think that's. When are you saying when it dropped inJapan yeah, I'm pretty sure Thei First Games were released in February, yeahyeah and I'm prettyu sure that's what they use is the metric for theanniversary, yeah the'e cool, yeah beyon. The Look Act,I'm excited to see what comes with this and and where the game is headed andwhere the brand as a whole is is planning to take this so yeah. You know I'm going to be in thelook at for more news, because I'm always excited to pick up a new Tok em,onundon swag, so Riley I firs. I was just going to ask you ril. If there'sone piece of Merch that you are like, I have to get this. What would it be or what would you I mean? Obviously wedon't have the whole. You know kind of merged lineup, but, like you know, assuming that they're goingto make, you know pretty much anything that you could want. What's one pieceof Merch that you absolutely have to pick up, Welli'm,always a big fan of a the peopes. Of course yeah. That's like an obviousPake is I'm a big fan of plush, especially Pikaco Man? Obviously Peacyou if, when happens a drop outside of plush one thing one thing I've been reallyinto recently is like Renecx...

...sweatshirts. So if they have like acool sweater or speatshirt or Hoodie, just like had really awesome, frandingEy look super cool. I would love to have something like that. Or another thing I really like isthings that kind of hom do cory kind of things that just like fit into the home.Okay, so you know- and it can be something as simple as like Mug orsomething as complex as like they did like silverweare recently thisall that kind of stuff, I think, is really interesting and it's is a prettycool way to like. I always like stuff, that's kind oflike subtle. You know yeah, but we ou have like silverware that you knowmight have like the peakajuse tail graved into it or something that'sreally cool o me yeah yeah, where it's not it's not hitting you over the face, but it's like if you know what you're looking for yeah it's cool Di, you havesomething in my when you aske that is there something that like reallytickles your fancy, I just want to make sure that I get thethe box thing. I mean we're talking about that that twentyeth anniversaryPaka, choos silver Pikachuw, and I just I don't know that it's like a bigregret of mine, but like it's certainly something that I wish I had so I wantto make sure that I get something specifically branded with the twentyfifth anniversary and if they're going to do some kind of collection andPokemon card box that I want to make sure I grabb them yeah. That makessense to me I'll, probably get O kno whatever comes out to I'm such O sucker, like they really scool iminidition stuff and I'm interested yeah yeah for sure. That's how it is. That's fun: Let'stalk about some other other news in the pokmon world, Dow, so there's plenty ofcards that have been kind of announced here, as weprogressed through theg reveals of th battlestyles cards. Dw. Do you have any of the releasesfrom the last week or so they've like really stuck out to you? Well, we were talking before the castand I feel like. Sometimes we have some of our better discussions before thecast, but there's the camping gear that just got released today and orbetle from you know, presumably that it willbe relosed. Excuse me that will be released in our single strike, rampadstrike set, but the the camping gear, if youhaven't seen it, search your deck for a card and put it in your hand, thenShuff at your deck, and if you play this car, your turn end. Sothat's kind of the Cabyo you cul search out for anything. But if you play yourturn in so it's very similar to something like Steven's resolve thathas seen you know, limited play, but certainly has seen play in the past andthe right deck with kind of the difference being youknow you only search out one card, but you could play your supporter for theTim, like you can reserv tryind camping gear right there. You know there arepros and cons, and I was kind of thinking that this deck or this cardwould be maybe a little bit better than what you were thinking, and I think youbrought up some really good thoughts where you know, maybe in a stall typedeck where Stevens rsolve was normally played, you would just rather have hisaution, because you could just draw you know, kind of or and more cards, andit's more searchable than a camping, hear right. You can search for a forAzahian way easier than you can I cant Bin Ger on the first turn, and you knowjust maybe some other some other reasons to play to play something likea Zahan. You know just in general over. I can't think yeor where there wouldjust be more draws, pposed to searching for one specific card, and then theorbeatle is also very interesting, because we've seen this ability in thepast see limited again limited success and very like specific decks, but theorbital having the evo control for each energy attached to the pokemon. You maysearch your deck for a stage to excluding other orbetal and put it onyour bench. So we've seen this with Cradilli in expanded, and I want to make sure that I'm that I'm speaking correctly but the crat dillydidn't it have a grass ost yeah, the...

...cost of one grass. So one of thebiggest differences between credilly and the orbitle is the attack cost. Sothe credily that grass type costing the that grass type cosing that therass attack cost, whereas the WORBEDL can bepowered up with you know, twin or double colorless or triple accelerationenergy and just as a lot easier of an attacker in terms of that attack costto get going yeah. The the Orbio actually actually does kind of interestme yeah. I'm trying to I've been kind ofracking. My brain- and this is something I didn't really think about-you know as we've gone through the sets until now is like what kind ofcombinations of stage tos are potentially good. I think the key thatthat makes orbitale or what will make or beatle or break or beatle is whetheror not thereis a Combo of stage tos. That is particularly good yeah. So you know Jwu brought up like bringingup both colossals. I think there's an argument to be made that that's stilllike a decent use of it, the one colossal, obviouslyaccelerating seenn the Sanda condadeck, the other one doing ninety damage on acoinflip freech energy attached to it you know kind of a meme coin, flippekind of deck. I think there is still value in likegetting multiple the same stage to because it is hard to get multiple thesame stage to inplay at once. I think the real value the where themoney really is, if there's like some kind of separate evolution line stageto that, can be played together to like some great effect and Jianast. I thinkpokmonts kind of en meeting with their stage tos. It feels like they're, notthat good, but if there is somemer conbraseverbenhatthere has never been that staget that you're talking about whereit's like man, if only I could get this guy out. You know it hasn't really beenlike that. I mean you, maybe Oan make a case for something like something like porigon. You know kindof cool we've gotten a lot of really interesting and unique special energycards. Recently we have, then you know that's not something that I'mparticularly like, like that's, not something, that's not a card that Ilook at and say. Oh now, craydall like opens that up. You know now we finallycan make our Pori Gon deck right and, and the thing is like the he porigon-usually you're, just trying to play it with a stage one or something simpleranyway, whereas I feel like you need to pair it with another stage to likereally get the value, and I can't think of stage to Offon my hand that likereally needs that acceleration rom sure I don't know. If you have one in mind,I can't think of one yeah I mean expanded is probably where this wild be.Youkole is going to see the most play. You know you just look at whilecradilly you was played and expanded, and so orbetle seems like it hascertain certain disadvantages in the sense that credilly was a stage one. Soyou could play it with the DIDOPRISM, but certain advantages in the sensethat you know all the things that we had kind of talked about previously, with the attack cost and being able to get out multiple stage tos much moreeasily, and so you know you're, probably looking at or beadles beingsomething that could potentially work an expanded and just obviously the way.IDIDNT cardpool gives you a way more options for those broken combos likeyou're talking about and of course like it's still it's something that opensthe door right like it's now worth looking at the stage tos that have comeout recently and thinking about Sur and it's one of those things where it'slike. You know, and it might not even be good for the next six months, but ina year when we have you know our full kind of- or I guess in six months whenwe have kind of our full set block right, like maybe there's somethingmore to come out in the set after Singal and rapid strike that mayxactlyesorpital better. So so you know it makes you think about the stage twos.At least Heras, I feel like easy to...

...write stage he's off yea. It's definitely a shame. It'sdefinitely a shame that that's e case it is. It is, of course there are morecars that have been revealed recently. We have a slew of vs and vmaxes. Idon't think really any of them stood out too much to me. I don't know if youhad one in mind there. You know the Cricketune is good. Ialways like when they print those consistency abilities. So that will be very fun. I think, andjust a nice little addition to a lot of decks yeah. I like it's a cricketune. Isay this time and time again I like, when the Weirder pokemon that don'talways get a lot of attention, get a cool card. Like the perfect, I meanavene for them to get a card right. Just like thank goodness, we don't haveanother a rangaroo. You know right like this, could easilly have in in a rangeroo, but ere they decide. O crickatune was the ones yeah. I like that. That'sgreat, I do agree. I do agree. I think every pokmn, like that's one of thecool things about the trading card game, is that it does feel like they. Theydon't try to milk too hard theyr their kind of corner stones, yeah of the game in terms of what decksare good and so yeah, it's cool yeah. Definitely seeing something like aCricketon BUP up is being a potential. You knowohato include in a number ofdeks is really interesting. You also look at things like experience. Share,Scaperope e scape rob is definitely big to have bag. Yeah Beciu be silent andYO P ther. So it makes me think I mean. Maybe mybig Y big kind of investment right now is ultrabal Secreir ultra ball, so I'm kind of hoping that they kind offollow thes e reprance and bring us ultraball back there you go there, yougo, that's a OAS. Taking a chance. I like it, you gotta you got Ta, I mean it isreally interesting. You see these reprints come back and you know experience shares somethingthat we've seen in the past. Escaperope is something that's generally been inthe game. You know we look at warpoint and thennow they've kind of modified it into escape rope and so yeah. You know besmart in those investments and take a look at what's kind of been in theformat and maybe hasn't for a while anyuthink might come back because theydo try to reuse these kinds of concepts. So I actually have two like two other, like kind of side, ish thoughts, they're, not like super developed onsomething like the vs nd Maxes, the Municue. It's I think it's prettybad as it stands right now. The NAMUV ther for context. If you're not awareit has, the attack envying eyes for one sychic put three damge counters in Ponis active pokmon for each pice Carter. Upon is taken, so I mean you're lookingat up two o o hundred and fifty damage for one energy, which is kind of cool, but not really in right home about, but its ability is really interestingto me. So you play this ability when Minnicue goes onto the bench and thenuntil the end of your pons next turn prent all the ammage one of thisPokemon Biattax foryour on Spoke Min. I feel like if Mimiku had a vmax is likethe perfect ability. Obviously just set that up. So it's something the worth keeping theback of your head, like one, the tack is like decent and so like you couldtheoretically tackit into something to you know there I feel like there issome potential there, especially if there is a vmax that comes out, andeven I mean it could be like an interesting comeback card as well likeStampr, your ponent to one but five, five imes tat, three damage countersand they jus the Miq like theoretically, can't be damage there. I think the Makcar is actually decent, especially if they gotd o be Max and Tapu Coco vmax actually also kindof interest me. The attack, isn't that great or it does want Toyou damage andif you're behind them prizes. You paralyze your opponent, but have ACOCOV, has kind of been like an onagain off...

...again thing and pe Rom. So theoretically like this, could belike an evolution option. It does undred and eighty, which is beyond thetypical cab that you can do for three energy and PKROM. So right, I don'tthink it's like an obvious auto include, but I could et making is way asattackor people trying it out yeah sure and that that auto paralysis issomething that you know. Pikram is really leveraged well in the past yeahthat was kind of my thought. Is You culd o know a a good thing like that. IA little bit easr more sutanable to get up with a Rie to rite ou, but at thesame time you know that one turn of paralysis can the really swing gamesand if you're behind certainly is going to help you out a lot and well part ofmy thought was against, like vmax Dek, a brighttreek Osn't, always to Kit Kaothem and trip be right. She's a little bit. Squihier, though you know, gooduse, cases would be like in the the Santi scorch and the turn of thismatchup. You know typically an anternitis. What you're going to tryand do is you're going to try and paralyze the eterniist Examplin t onparalyze the attornitthis and try to go from there, but that's like not uni toAtko, unless you gx attack them for extra damage. Sure or you have a Boltunon the bench, but that's not always possible, like you. Sometimes? U Justdon't have that energy ours type Gogo MACs can just like swing. He atturnistcan't Ko you back, so they have to have a gaust and a switch, and you can to I kao them. So I feellike there is something there it. Maybe it's not good, but I think there issomething sure there's something lorking there'ssomething larking. That's all I'm saying well, good stuff, that's a that's areally good kind of overview. I mean. Surely there are other cards that wehaven't talked about the weepind bell. You know Tte Ors, so we you know we got.We got more cards out there, the Colass Ol that kind of thing, but these aresome of the more playable cards that you're going to seein an Eseein, an nextset yeah. I I mean yeah. We could we galtouch on a lot. A lot of these pokmonn are pretty cool n. They have like Nich, use cases orabilities so, and we could spend forever like talkingabout the the various situations or each of these cards who use which isgood. You know it's better than like usual, like filler kind of trash, whereit has like no petitive value. Sure absolutely absolutely so. I think withthat, let's move onto a different kind ofcard. What do you say Riley? Let's do it our cart of the day, so s today, Iwe need to get a feme song for the car the day. What's that we need to getlike a theme song for Cart of the day. Okay, yeah! Imagine you saying that andthen just like a little jingle that happens there. What? If, what? If wehired a musician yeah, you have a musician in mind. I don't know any musicians, but thesame all things consider that's Asti, no yeahwe can work somethin out anyway. Lljust get some free, we'll just rip some free music online anyway, yeah. So Cart of the day card that I played that I as probablyone of the well, it was the first stick that I ever felt like. I had the perfect deck listlike. I think I am always in pursuit. We've talked about this on the cast inthe past, I'm always in pursuit of the perfect sixty card deck list like Iwould just want to have every card. I know exactly what it's for. I have theexact amount of text that I could ever want, and it's never too much toolittle and all the pokemon lines are perfect and the recovery versus thedisruption versus the draw versus the consistency is all just like. It fits, and it looks good- and you know the matchups I know inside and out- and Ifinally felt like I had this for the first time ever back in two thousand adtwelve, it was, and I brought it to a...

...regional ended up going eight and onelost to a dark, Ri Hydrogon. This was when regionals were in Swiss rounds. They had like it was like. I don't know if it would have been like Li'd say it was you know twohundred people or something they would have nine rounds of Swiss so kind ofmore similar to what you might see from an online limitless tournament. Now,where it's just the Swiss, it's like a lot of rounds of Swiss, but it's allbest of one and then you would cut into a bracket style for a top thirty two,as opposed to cutting into a day to with more Swiss it cutd into bracketstyle, and that was pretty ruthless because you know you would never getyou know. If you ran into a bad matchup in your first round of top thirty two, then you would just be out right, even if your deck was good. There was nokind of way for you to play around some of the bad matchet, there's just no leeway y that sense. So anyway, I took this deck into topthirty two, and it was the first time that I felt likeI had this card, or this list that was just perfect and the card that itcentered around was the dark, explorers and Polion, and so thi m poleon has a diving drawability once during your tournoy, may just cart a card from your hand. If youdo draw two cards ar very similar to Zora, gx and also very similar toSincino, with that very colability diamond drawkept the thing. Veryry consistent, also allowed you to play a bunch of little. You know text right, just like sor woud, so you could, or just like, even sinceYoukno Decx, I suppose, could right you're just able to see more of yourdeck, so you can play kind of more Spooky Tech Card, so the tech cardsthat I mostly played back then were torakion. That was to take care ofanything electric based. There were things like Zecram Electric. There were things like dark, ry ex right, fighting weakness,so Tirakien had this kind of retaliate, I think it was called. RECALLIEO wasyer, do n ninety damage for two energy and then you know right swing into things that werefighting weak, an and take them out and one hit, but the EMPO hand was reallycool had that divond draability LAS SOS set up all these text and then it alsohad a really great attack for the time called Attach Command, which I'm tryingto think of there. There's got to be one. There's got to be a pogmon thathas a veryimilar attack right now, but I can't really think of it. But anywayit's nat command for one water. Does ten damage times a number of pokemontand play both oars on your opponents? So you just say Tack Command. You knowif you're, if you're in the right point of the game, youknow you're swing it for n hundred and twenty for one energy, which again backthen was pretty impressive and then, if they did't knock out your apoleon, youcould play something like Max Potion and heal it. And so I just really lovethis card, because it reminded me of the time that I had the perfect decklist and that I should have won a regionals. But I didn't because Istarted tarakon all three games in top thirty two and then ended up losingbecause my opponent did like the recuose gx mailing attackas like a last hope, and he had something like four cards in the deckand he had to not mill the catcher that he needed to win andit was the last card in the deck and it was like so crushing like such a crushing way tolose ohwel. But anyway I would have won the regionals. That was the the one that got away from me with this Enpolon I'll, always love. You T super cool yeah. They didn't pully on,sat conic, it's a you know. Obviously it's Gotte powercrept at this point in the game, but is super cool super fun to like revisitthat card as well? Af your playing old formats yeah, and it was- I mean it wasnot...

...the worst card. If you you know a yearor two later, it was played in this and polion dusk, nor deck. I think intweanty fourteen wo thousand an thireeen twenty fourteen somewhere ondthere so to see the card like, I was playing it when it first came out andthen to see other people kind of pick, the deck up and or pick the POKAMONcard backup and play it in a new deck is also just very cool. To see kind ofthe evolution of a card through different formats totally agree, o theygreat Il there. You go and Pullin on decks very fun, wof home speaking, I'mapoleon for our last topic today, and I also want to say next week is going tobe a pretty deep dive and the COMPETI stuff. So if you're looking at PlayersCup three definitely be sure to check out next episode. For this episode,we're going to wap up oin kind of a lighter note in an honor of thetwentyfifth anniversary want you wanted to talk about Kand of tin generally related, actuallydo another trying o anniversary and noucsment e on't talk about starter,PUK mone. So if you're not aware, as part of the twenty fifth anniversary, they announced that they're going to be releasing jumbo pokmon cards of everysingle starter and the catch. Is that I's the first ard of each of thosestarters? So you know you have base set charm, ander, Ollisoran Squirdel, andthen you have the neos indequil and ododile and Chikarita, and so on and soforth. UNSO Thoy get all the way to stopoll score Bunniin and Grouki thejwin this awesome moment for pokemon starters, Iquestion to you: is for each type. What is your favorite starter and why I have really fond memories of waiting in line for the Games for the for the sixth persue Fifth GenerationGames with with Chespan I had my chestpen hat on. I really I was the sixt generation, butyes, first or six generate yeah yeah, sorry, sorrysix generation with mytruts been had on, and just I remember that was one of theactually the only time that I ever went to a pre Wyo call it like a midnight release, yeah of a game- and I just remember having really good time, went with someMichigan State people and it was veryy fun and I picked Chestman because itlooked like the worst Fokmon of the three and it does look. goopy he's verygoofy, but I don't know that he would be my. Idon't know they need be, my top starter grass type. I think that has to go toRolin. I think rallit is just one of the best pokemon like just design wise. I think for methat has ever been made and then for fire, really big fan of Sinda Quill,as that was that, I would say, hartgold soul. Silver werekind of the first Games that I actually like knew what I was doing on my firstgoround of like Pokmon, yellow and Pokmon Redanblue. I didn't quite like I wasn't quite old enough right quite get what was happening. You knowsomething was not there, so we would just keep checking like my. I remembermy dad, like God, bless my dad. He keep checking out pokmon yellow for me and Iwould just never be able to like get past the first gatekeeping activity ofdelivering the Potions or whatever it was professor o. So I'd always try torun by the bugkeeper, and then you know that would never work and, and then youknow, okay, three days come and you got to give the game back. It was always sad but anyway, but hardgold, so earh case not harkled, but silver and gold were kind of the firstgames that I was like. Oh yes, okay. I actually understand what I'm doing so.That comes with the CYNDIQUIL, and so I...

...think Cinda quilis one of my favoritefire. Well my favorite fire starter and then in terms of water starters yeah. I think I have to give thatdistinction o disable. I think the heat Pokmon is just a really funny. Lookingdude he's just holarious o funny. Looking did an it's just very funny.Looking what about you ryle give me your give me your lowdown on starters,Tho grashs. I have to agree with you. It's definitely Ralet, although Teraliis definitely like one of my all time, favorite Taka Months Monn, I likecollect stuff for yeah. I also, though D I do want to getspecial shoutouts to both bull thesore anger. He, I think, they're also reallycool. I've also, obviously iconic feel like bollestor gets kind of the shaft. It's not like loved as much as as his brethren in Gen One O. I makesure he has a little bit of attention there, yeah for sure or water kind ofin the same boat as you, where wasn't really smart enough, yet to play pokmonand gen ones, Dene one or two really yeah. You know I played yellow, but myPekacho had like three electric moves and it was I only like welleled atPokemon, so that was like not great yeah yeah and I don't think I ever beat silver. Idon't know what happened there, but by the time like Ruby and Sapfirecame out, I was like actually able to effectively read and comprehend theinformation that I was reading so sure yeah I cont to me, is mudkit becausemud kit was so cute, so fun I Myau know he's. I feel like he's a huge HAP fan.Favorite anyway sure you know, but that line is super iconic. It was like thefirst time I really beat the elite, for it was with a swamper Soi, always love Mudkip, he's tedorableand Irol. Video of my kids, just chirping at each other, as is greatyeah. Fire is like a little bit contested for me. Really Yeah were youwhatever a fire guy, because I mean they kind of I feel like th. Fuckpeople would choose fire starters, always choose fire starters. I don'tknow if you feel the same well. I never realized it until like many years later, but they kind of built build in this thethe difficulty of the game or GroStarter. You pick right because, generally speaking the first, you know if you look like the originalgames right like brock week to walk week to grass right sowall. The SORIS, like quote, unquote the easiest one to start with, becauseyou basically coast right through the first two gyms sort al. You know youonly get that one gym advantage in the th first game and then charmander. Youknow you don't really get that much of an advantage or you know, there's noadvantage in brfacing against brack and then there's a disadvantage facing offagainst misty. So I always I didn't realize that until later, but yeah thatbuilt en difficulty, so I always generally straight away from fire. It'sfunny, though, because firetypes actually are sometimes easier dependingon the Gen, notably Gento. I'm pretty sure waseasiest for Sundoquil, because the first GAM well is actually strongagainst Agreda sure. That's said, iretypes Y, my two favorites thatreally come to mind. One is an old classic Synda QuillCynicolis, my starter in Gento and the Collis just so so cute. You know youwant to just give sinniql a hug all the time, even if it might set you all flameawesome so into quil in his line were really done dirty by the transition ofthred, I feel like sure yeah. They don't look really ascool as they do in Sprik form or in their cards. UN Yeah, like are inactiveand like inhese goofy weird poses but...

...well, and they- and you know, part ofthe part of the Pokemon is that thrtheir flames are not yeah exactlylike always like Myer Wanaso. They look just very unusual when they don't havetheir flaming backs exactly so. tenicle was done dirty by the transition, buthe's still so cute so fun. So I love Sinda quil yeah, the other one that Ireally like is actually score. Bunny. I think the scorebiny line is superawesome. A lot of people least in my friend groups, weren't really a fan ofSyndras. I think Syndras is sick. I actually liked him a lot. I like thees, like a little soccer player, hes and even even the middle form that, like thename, is for some reason escaping me or boot, and reveis also is also supercute. I like this little mask so they're all really good. I think I'lljust I'll give it to score money. Just because he's newer and like doesn'thave as many fans as syndical does yeah O. I love. I think that would be. Thatwould be a pretty fun poll to put out on the twitter pitch yeah to find out what what everybody'sfavorite, favorite, starter and talkes. You can only do forwors on you forphole option. I know that's the problem, there's so many starters now I know Pope Mi getting too big big tofal kindof thing yeah. Those are my three angws as well Y overallthough. I thinkstarters are just like some of the pok one they probably put the most effortin and usually they do pretty good job with them yeah. I mean well I mean, then they get down to the end of the you know the end of the line, a dthey're like okay. Well, what can we do guys all right? Let's, let's Ay animatea coffin, oh yeah at's a good idea: okay, okay, all right! What else can wedo guys all right? Let's, let's animate a teapot? Okay, all right, yeahth ship in chip. You know it's! It's always some weird GIS type, that'sjust an object! Yeah! I feel that for sure so be sure to tween, thus whate yourfavorite starter is and which of the jumbo cards. You're excited to pick up.Iam definitely want some of those first genle ones.
